...a girl sleeping in a hospital bed in her a.f. vandevorst dress. but here, the girl as well as the mattress and pillow are made out of candle wax.
once lit, what starts as a perfect image will slowly melt and perish during the biennale.

Nakako Hayashi on the Individuals collection, 1999, Little More:
' Upon entering the room, we found models lying on beds. Dresses and skirt were arranged from pillowcases; diagonally distorted draperies formed shirts, and pleated fabric was sewn into skirts. We took photos fanatically. We could have a close look at the clothes and see all the details. The girls on the beds had no make-up, and they did not seem to care about the wrinkles in their dresses or their dishevelled hair. Eventually, they started to rise one by one, and the show had begun. A very unique stage effect that capsized conventional shows, where you have to line up in a long queue and wait a long time for the opening and you don't even get to see the whole model's figure.'

The Belgium fashion label A.F. Vandevorst were invited by Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011 to create an installation.

Lenn Cox + Jp Scheen joined forces and produced this installation with taxidermist Richard Philips.

Vanitas lijkt de naam van een hele nare studentenvereniging (Comitas, Veritas, Unitas, Sanitas, Sororitas, Societas etc.). Niet dat er leuke bestaan, maar dat doet er even niet toe, want Vanitas is iets heel anders. De term komt uit de kunstwereld en duidt een bepaald soort stilleven aan. De letterlijke betekenis is: ijdelheid en vruchteloosheid. Dat is een goed gekozen naam voor dit door Lenn Cox en Jp Scheen in elkaar gezette blad. Vanitas bevat kunstobjecten die ijdel gepresenteerd (horen te) worden: graphic design, mode, fine arts, film, muziek, product design en fotografie. Jonge kunstenaars krijgen de kans om hun werk te laten zien. Dit is het allereerste nummer van Vanitasen het ziet er erg goed uit. Ik ben benieuwd naar de volgende.
